The Libertarian Futurist Society has established two higher LFS membership levels: Gold and Silver Benefactors.
The new Gold Benefactor and Silver Benefactor levels will offer more ways for LFS members to show their support for our programs and awards.
Unless they prefer to remain anonymous, Silver and Gold Benefactors will receive recognition annually on the Prometheus Blog, while Gold Benefactors also will be thanked publicly during the annual Prometheus Awards ceremony.
With the addition of the Gold and Silver Benefactor options, the Libertarian Futurist Society now offers six possible membership levels – including Basic members, Full members, Sponsors and Benefactors.
The enhanced options for different levels of membership are designed to give freedom-loving SF/fantasy fans a greater range of choices in how they connect to the LFS, with lower levels more affordable and the three highest Benefactor levels helping to sustain the increasingly expensive gold coin prizes that accompany the Prometheus Awards.

Winners of the annual Prometheus Award for Best Novel traditionally receive an engraved plaque and a one-ounce gold coin; Prometheus Hall of Fame winners for Best Classic Fiction receive an engraved plaque with a smaller gold coin.
With the price of gold having skyrocketed by more than 1000% since the 1990s, reaching almost $3,300 an ounce in May 2025, the LFS hopes to cover those costs with additional support from the new Gold and Silver Benefactors.
Whether renewing their membership or joining for the first time our nonprofit international network of freedom-loving sf/fantasy fans, individuals are encouraged to select the membership level that best fits their needs and goals.
For more information, including the membership dues at each level, visit the LFS website’s Membership page.
For convenience, the Membership page includes PayPal buttons allowing payment of annual dues for each of the six levels – as well as additional PayPal donation buttons.
Those who prefer to pay their memberships by check may send their dues to Libertarian Futurist Society, 650 Castro St., Suite 120-433, Mountain View, CA 94041.
ABOUT THE PROMETHEUS AWARDS AND THE LFS
* Join us! To help sustain the Prometheus Awards and support a cultural and literary strategy to appreciate and honor freedom-loving fiction, join the Libertarian Futurist Society, a non-profit all-volunteer association of freedom-loving sf/fantasy fans.
Libertarian futurists understand that culture matters. We believe that literature and the arts can be vital in envisioning a freer and better future. In some ways, culture can be even more influential and powerful than politics in the long run, by imagining better visions of the future incorporating peace, prosperity, progress, tolerance, justice, positive social change, and mutual respect for each other’s rights, human dignity, individuality and peaceful choices.
* Prometheus winners: For a full list of Prometheus winners, finalists and nominees – including in the annual Best Novel and Best Classic Fiction (Hall of Fame) categories and occasional Special Awards – visit the enhanced Prometheus Awards page on the LFS website. This page includes convenient links to all published essay-reviews in our Appreciation series explaining why each of more than 100 past winners since 1979 fits the awards’ distinctive dual focus on both quality and liberty.
