profit-enhanced competition via free enterprise to reach the stars (published before the X Prize that saw SpaceShip One reach space in 2004.)<\/p>\n<p>Although Koman appeared at previous Prometheus ceremonies to offer eloquent acceptance speeches when he won for Best Novel, the 2024 ceremony is the first time that Koman has participated as an awards presenter &#8211; an honor long overdue.<\/p>\n<p>By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lfs.org\/blog\/prometheus-laureate-victor-koman-inaugurates-the-agorist-archives-of-samuel-edward-konkin-iii\/\">Victor Koman<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s hard for me to grasp the fact that the first Prometheus Award was granted <i>forty-five years ago<\/i> by the originator of the award \u2014 L. Neil Smith \u2014 to F. He wasn&#8217;t concerned that I had several full-color illustrations \u2014 he didn&#8217;t have to shoot plates or pay for color proofs.<\/p>\n<p>He simply had to come up with a way to allow people to buy a digital copy of the book over the Internet and download it immediately. The cost of publishing a novel plummeted. Now, Kindle readers and ePub versions of books abound and are considered valid avenues for publication.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly all of our nominee novels this year would <i>not<\/i> have been considered \u201clegitimately published\u201d thirty years ago.<\/p>\n<p>But in the 21<sup>st<\/sup> Century, they have found their way almost directly from writer to reader, and now the Libertarian Futurist Society stands ready \u2014 for the forty-fourth time (or forty-<i>third<\/i> \u2014 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lfs.org\/blog\/40th-anniversary-celebration-an-appreciation-of-no-award-the-1985-prometheus-best-novel-choice\/\">I\u2019m lookin\u2019 at <i>you<\/i>, 1985!)<\/a> \u2014 to honor an author for a novel of \u201cspeculative fiction that champions individual rights, based on the moral\/legal principle of non-aggression as the ethical and practical foundation for peace,
