(Such efforts may be more important than ever today, with the aging of sci-fi fandom.)<\/p>\n<p>So if you\u2019re planning to attend a science-fiction\/fantasy convention, libertarian conference or any gathering where you might find freedom-loving sf\/fantasy fans, please consider using the flyer as part of your outreach efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Or, better yet, take a flyer or two with you to any party or social event \u2013 and if you happen to meet someone who seems interested in the Prometheus Awards, hand them a copy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WHAT DOES THE FLYER SAY?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the flyer\u2019s basic pitch and headline:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you love liberty&#8230;?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8230;and science fiction?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>If so, then join the Libertarian Futurist Society and vote in the Prometheus Awards! <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And here\u2019s a representative example of the rewritten text and updated list of Prometheus winners:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Prometheus Awards recognize outstanding works of science fiction\/fantasy that dramatize the perennial conflict between Liberty and Power, favor voluntary cooperation over institutionalized coercion, expose abuses and excesses of coercive government, critique or satirize authoritarian ideology, or champion individual rights as the ethical and practical foundation for peace, prosperity, progress, justice, mutual respect, human dignity, and the flourishing of civilization itself.<\/p>\n<p>Among our Prometheus winners: Hans Christian Anderson (\u201cThe Emperor\u2019s New Clothes\u201d), Poul Anderson, Ray Bradbury<em>, <\/em>Lois McMaster Bujold <em>(Falling Free), <\/em>C.J. Cherryh, Travis Corcoran, Cory Doctorow <em>(Little Brother), <\/em>Harlan Ellison, Ursula K. Le Guin <em>(The Dispossessed)<\/em>, Robert A. Heinlein, Sarah Hoyt <em>(Darkship Thieves), <\/em>George Orwell<em>, <\/em>Terry Pratchett <em>(Night Watch<\/em>), Ayn Rand, L. Neil Smith, Neal Stephenson, Charles Stross, J.R.R. Tolkien<em>, <\/em>Vernor Vinge<em>, <\/em>Kurt Vonnegut (\u201cHarrison Bergeron\u201d), Jo Walton <em>(Ha\u2019Penny), <\/em>Jack Williamson (\u201cWith Folded Hands\u201d) and F. Paul Wilson<em>.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The two new endorsement quotes, meanwhile, come from TOR.com and The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction:<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Prometheus Award is an interesting case. The results are as remarkable as the award&#8217;s longevity &#8230; The LFS ranges far outside the borders of conventional American libertarian thought &#8230; with equally diverse selections on nominee lists. Following this particular award can be rewarding for readers of all stripes\u2019 \u2014 \u201840 Years of the Prometheus Award,&#8221;\u2019 by James Davis Nicoll (TOR.com)<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Uniquely among political movements, many of libertarianism&#8217;s most influential texts have been by SF writers &#8230; It seems likely that the influence of the (Libertarian SF) movement within sf will grow.\u2019 \u2014- <em>The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction <\/em><\/p>\n<p>P.S.
