<\/a>So does her \u201cfan-fic\u201d novel \u201cThe Weight,\u201d which is \u201cpretty blatant,\u201d she said.<\/p>\nMeanwhile, her sf\/fantasy novel \u201cOf Elven Blood,\u201d published through Writers Of The Apocalypse Press and available on Amazon, is among her pro-published writings that have \u201csubtle anti-statist themes,\u201d Fish said.<\/p>\n
That news will come as no surprise to the fans of Fish\u2019s Darkover-inspired novella \u201cTower of Horses\u201d and her related filk song \u201cThe Horsetamer\u2019s Daughter.\u201d<\/p>\n
Together, Fish\u2019s novella and the song that inspired it received the 2014 Special Prometheus Award \u2013 the first time that the award has recognized a song.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat got me into the\u00a0Darkover <\/em>anthology series — which, alas, is now coming to an end,\u201d Fish said.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Good news, though: Fish reports that she might have another story in the next and final anthology in the long-running Darkover series, first envisioned in a series of novels and stories by the late great Marion Zimmer Bradley.<\/p>\n Well before Fish had written and had published her first Darkover story, Tower of Horses<\/em>, (published in the anthology Music of Darkover),\u00a0<\/em>she\u2019d been writing and publishing in fanzines for decades.<\/p>\n \u201cI think the experience of fan-writing is the best school for writers,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n For those interested in reading other fiction by Fish, she points readers to An Archive of Our Own,<\/strong><\/em><\/a> a website for fan fiction where much of her fan fiction can be found.<\/p>\n For \u201cThe Weight,\u201d though, fans may have to search a bit harder, she said.<\/p>\n \u201cYou’ll have to go to a site called Fanlore,<\/strong> <\/a>look up “The Weight, Collected”, and then search for the one small line on the page which will direct you to the novel itself,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cThe collection is about women who are, indeed, nobody’s victims — in which the Anarchist themes vary from the subtle to the obvious,\u201d Fish said.<\/p>\n A Good Reads review hailed the collection as an intriguing read.<\/p>\n \u201cNo matter how formidable the enemy is, the strong female protagonists simply refuse to be marked as victims. They fight against all odds only to emerge as winners. Kudos to the author for giving us such ordinary yet powerful characters,\u201d the Goodreads reviewer wrote.<\/p>\n Fish, who lives in Arizona with a variable number of cats and guitars (according to her Amazon bio), also has written quite a few stories published in other editors\u2019 anthologies.<\/p>\n Among them: books in Jerry Pournelle\u2019s and Terry Carr’s \u201cWar World” series and the “Merovingen Nights” series edited by C.J. Cherryh (the 2020 Prometheus winner for Best Novel for Alliance Rising,\u00a0<\/em>co-authored with Cherryh’s partner Jane S.
