Sunday Aug. 16 during the 46th Prometheus awards ceremony, Aldous Huxley\u2019s classic dystopian novel will be the 50th work to win this annual awards category, first presented in 1983.<\/p>\n<p><i>Brave New World, <\/i>ranked in fifth place by Modern Library on its list of the 100 Best Novels in English of the 20th century, continues to be considered among the most influential works of dystopian literature.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Huxley\u2019s still-timely cautionary tale envisions a collectivist soft tyranny under seemingly benevolent world government and technocratic central planning.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.lfs.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Huxley-HL.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" collectivism and scientism, Huxley warned about behavioral\/biochemical conditioning, propaganda, censorship and manipulation of artificial wombs limiting intelligence and initiative to create and control different castes.<\/p>\n<p>At a time when the intellectual and artistic elite saw most forms of authoritarian collectivism as the inevitable and positive wave of the future, Huxley foresaw the dark side of utopia.<\/p>\n<p>The novel explicitly dramatizes how such trends deny individuality, liberty, reason, romantic love, the family, history, and literature (including Shakespeare, which Star Dwellers, <\/i>a 1961 novel (Faber and Faber; Avon Books) by James Blish; <i>That Hideous Strength, <\/i>a 1945 novel (Scribner) by C.S. Lewis; <i>Salt,<\/i> a 2000 novel (Gollancz) by Adam Roberts; and <i>Singularity Sky<\/i>, a 2003 novel (Ace) by Charles Stross.<\/p>\n<p><b>WATCH THE AUG. 16 PROMETHEUS AWARDS CEREMONY<br \/>\n<\/b><br \/>\nThe 46th annual Prometheus Awards will be presented online Sunday afternoon Aug. 16, 2026, in a zoom awards ceremony open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s hourlong ceremony, tentatively scheduled for 2-3 p.m. Eastern time and emceed by LFS President William H.
