and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lfs.org\/blog\/self-reliance-and-libertarian-ideals-on-the-frontier-prometheus-winning-novelist-travis-corcoran-on-joss-whedons-serenity-the-2006-prometheus-special-award-winner\/\"><i>Serenity, <\/i><\/a>written and directed by Joss Whedon as a follow-up and semi-sequel to his short-lived TV series <i>Firefly. (See the r<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lfs.org\/blog\/orwells-animal-farm-falls-disappointingly-short-in-new-animated-film-version-that-twists-and-distorts-its-anti-authoritarian-themes\/\">ecent post<\/a> explaining why this poorly reviewed film was so disappointing &#8211; especially from the perspective of libertarians, or anyone else who understands Orwell\u2019s anti-communist themes.)<\/p>\n<p>Happily, many of the other film versions of Prometheus winners have been far more successful, from <em>The Lord of the Rings<\/em> and <em>Nineteen Eighty-Four<\/em> to <em>A Clockwork Orange<\/em> and <em>V for Vendetta<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the full list &#8211; or at least the ones that I know about &#8211; in alphabetical order:<\/p>\n<p><b><i><a above list, you probably will notice a few titles that you didn\u2019t know had been made into movies. I was surprised to discover several when researching this Prometheus Blog article.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, until I\u2019d researched their history, I hadn\u2019t realized that Terry Pratchett\u2019s comic novel <i>Night Watch <\/i>had been adapted into a British TV series.<\/p>\n<p>The 2021 series <em class=\"eujQNb\" data-sfc-root=\"c\" data-sfc-cb=\"\" data-processed=\"true\">The Watch<\/em> (available on platforms like BBC iPlayer) adapts characters like Sam Vimes and Lady Sybil Ramkin, but shifts the setting to a more modern, &#8220;cyberpunk&#8221; style, differing from the books. Forster\u2019s story \u201cThe Machine Stops,\u201d inducted in 200 into the Prometheus Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n<p>The 50-minute TV adaptation, directed by Philip Saville, aired as part of a British sci-fi anthology series and reportedly was highly regarded for its dystopian vision as a prescient sci-fi story often cited for anticipating the internet and digital isolation.<\/p>\n<p>The story also was adapted in 2009 into a 10-minute TV short film, produced as a thesis project at New York\u2019s School of Visual Arts.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>But who has seen either the short film or TV version?
