and to liberty?<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><b>BURGAUER\u2019S EVOLUTION<br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p>In a recent email interview, the Florida resident and long-time LFS member explained that his devotion to science fiction has everything to do with what he learned from his professional career and day job.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn my professional life, I was a stockbroker.\u00a0 I founded a successful mutual biological evolution and how natural selection had favored those archaic human beings who evolved adaptions that allowed them to prosper from trading goods and services with other human beings, one man becoming skilled at tanning leathers, for example, while another became skilled at knapping, i.e., fashioning spear-points.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Such evolutionary adaptations, he learned, led directly to the evolution of speech and language \u201cas well as the development of writing as human beings began to keep records of their trading activities \u2014 with whom, where, and when,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis sequence of biologic events provided the evolutionary underpinnings for capitalism and free trade.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once Burgauer grasped what he calls \u201cthe natural selective bias in favor of free trade,\u201d he began applying science fiction to envision future trends in evolution and trading.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was clear to me that unfettered trading (libertarianism) would produce the highest standards of living hundreds of years down the road,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to write about that future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So he did.<\/p>\n<p><b>BURGAUER\u2019S SCIENCE FICTION<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><a first SF novels were the direct result of those musings &#8211; such as <i>Moon Beam and Skullcap.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Of his SF works, Burgauer suggests that LFS members and other science fiction fans unfamiliar with his fiction read as an introduction perhaps his best book on the subject: <i>The Night of the Eleventh Sun <\/i>(BookSurge Publishing, 2007), about late Neanderthals meeting early first lunar space elevator.<\/p>\n<p><b>THE MYSTERY OF THE BROKEN GARGOYLE<br \/>\n<\/b><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Set in England during World War I, Burger\u2019s latest novel revolves around two Boy Scouts who uncover a secret German plot to assassinate a brilliant British scientist.<\/p>\n<p>A review in <i>Indies Today<\/i> praised the novel as \u201chistorical fiction that is equal parts education and entertainment\u201d and as <b>\u201c<\/b>a heartfelt exploration of courage, legacy, and the heroism of ordinary people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a
